So very sad to hear that Ruth Rendell, one of my most favourite novelists has passed away at age 85.
From BBC News Sunday May 2, 2015: “She wrote more than 60 novels in a career spanning 50 years, her best-known creation being Inspector Wexford, which was turned into a highly successful TV series.
Rendell, one of Britain’s best-selling contemporary authors, also wrote under the pen-name Barbara Vine.
Born in Essex, she is credited with bringing a social and psychological dimension to crime fiction.
Publisher Penguin Random House said Rendell, who suffered a stroke in January, died in London on Saturday morning.”
I loved her Inspector Wexford series. My favourite stand-alone novel by Ruth Rendell is “The Tree of Hands“. My favourite novel written under her pseudonym of Barbara Vine is “The Brimstone Wedding“.
Very sad news……a truly great author. Lynne, like you I loved the Inspector Wexford series. Poor Ruth couldn’t write them fast enough sometimes…Simisola stands out for me!. Also, like you I loved The Tree of Hands……truly a work of art. I will never forget Ruth Rendell!!!
