The covers of novels entice the reader to enter a different world. Covers are, after all, the way the publisher ‘hooks‘ the reader into choosing one book over countless others.
In my thirty-sixth installment of ‘Cover Love‘, I’d like to show you books that feature benches on their covers.
If every public bench could absorb the thoughts of all the people who have sat on them…
what a story they could tell!
Some of the following books I’ve already read, some are on my ‘to read’ list,
and some I chose only for their covers.
Some, perhaps, will now be on your TBR!
Well done! You raised the “common” park bench to an interesting and important metaphor, once again opening my eyes. This is another fine article (I hate the word “blog”). Thank you the great research and thoughts.

I hadn’t thought about benches on book covers before, but they do seem to be a popular theme! Thanks for the food for thought!

What is this connection that we have with benches? I feel it myself, but can’t explain it.

So true! Benches are where we sit and ponder. Where we rest and re-access our lives and our thoughts. Where we can sometimes feel connected to a place or person. Oh the stories that benches could tell!

Love these covers! And funny thing – I’ve read 3 of these titles, and all three of the books were book club reads for me! (One Good Dog, The School of Essential Ingredients, & Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer) My book club must have a thing for books with benches on the cover 🙂

Have I mentioned how much I love this series? Particularly this installment. I’ve discovered I love photographs of benches. I love how a change in light or quality of upkeep can totally change the story that pops into your head looking at them.

Morning, Lynne.
You did a fine job again.
One thing I noticed: on the covers that include people seated on the benches, the people are (with one exception) pictured from the rear.
