If you’ll remember, I vowed to NOT have a very big bookhaul this time. I’ve been attempting to control my over-large TBR by planning out my reading month and, most importantly, NOT adding to my every growing list of review commitments.
Well…….. my reading plan was very successful. I read eleven books in April.
BUT !!!! my book haul was almost as large as it was before!
My weakness is appalling!
I completely forgot to factor in that I had already requested some titles from NetGalley that I hadn’t heard back from yet – which have since been approved.
“Our house” by Louise Candlish“Deep fear” by Rachel Lynch
“Dead and gone” by D.L. Michaels
AND some lovely publishers sent me NetGalley widgets for titles I just couldn’t pass up:
Thomas & Mercer/Amazon Publishing UK
sent me a widget for “The retreat” by Mark EdwardsSimon & Schuster sent me a widget for “The Lido” by Libby Page
St. Martin’s Press sent me a widget for “She as the quiet one” by Michele Campbell
and, I’m taking part in a book tour in August with Rachel’s Random Resourcesso, I had to get the book “The Cheesemaker’s House” by Jane Cable for the tour
and the ever generous Thistle Publishing sent me “The woodcutter” by Shaun Bainesand… I had a
huge fail severe weak spell when I visited Edelweiss to find that the following book was a Download Now title for me. As I had read her debut novel and loved it, I couldn’t help but take them up on the offer of “A double life” by Flynn Berry
Can you believe it???? NINE more review commitments!
After I had vowed to have no more than two….
Hope I do better next month……….
so I’ll have to fit in at least one short story. I choose
“The text” by Claire Douglas (40 pages)
My Goodreads Challenge is coming along nicely:
My NetGalley feedback ratio still needs some improvement:
My Edelweiss feedback ratio needs recusitation even more improvement:
Oh, I fall into the same category with NetGalley. I request books and then find out I have most of them approved weeks later all at once. 😊🙈
I’m planning on reading We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It’s a shortish essay – would you classify it as a short story as well? 😊

Essays are nonfiction but I imagine that you could class it as a short story… or at least a short read. 😙

That all makes perfect sense, thanks! 🙂

I’ve never seen my feedback ratio on EW. I didn’t even know it was recorded! I saw The Double Life, but wasn’t sure having not read the author (sooo maybe I do need it)! Your month looks busy, but in a GOOD way!

Feedback ratios are not recorded on Edelweiss. I just figured it out myself. I really enjoyed reading “Under the harrow”, Flynn Berry’s debut novel. My review: https://fictionophile.wordpress.com/2016/09/21/under-the-harrow-by-flynn-berry/

So very pleased to see Flynn Berry
has a new book. When you recommended Under The Harrow
I became a fan of this author and
I was delighted to see A Double
Life…..just have to hunt down a
copy. We are book crazy Lynne…..
as Anne said “we are kindred
spirits”!!! Difficult to say “no” to a
book…..I’m sure you will handle
your TBR pile…..as you have in the
past……you sound so very delighted!😘

Gaye it is SO wonderful to share my ‘sickness’ with someone who understands. As you say, though at times I’m overwhelmed, I remain delighted.

Put on the kettle and grab a mug, because you’ll be needing some tea to go with all that reading!

So true Carrie. I’ve come to wish for rainy days so that I can read. The good weather makes me want to go outside…

I love your brutal honesty about your own lack of self-discipline…we’ve all been there! Having said that, you’ve picked up what sound like some great books. Would have been a crime not to, lol. I’ve been hearing a lot of positive noise online about The Lido. I’ll be interested in what you think.

The Text grabbed my attention – and before I realised it’s a short story – which I’m reading more and more of.

Yes, I had “The text” on my TBR and didn’t realize it was a short story until I was looking for something to read for May which is short story month. I just scanned the pagination of all the books on my Goodreads TBR and when I came to one that said 40 p. I stopped looking any further.

Well, I figure it is too hard to pass on a good book, so I try not to even look. Notice I said try. It looks like you got some good ones though. Time to draw up my May list. BTW, where do you find your ratio on Edelwiess or do you just figure it out yourself?

Carla I just figure out my Edelweiss feedback ratio myself. It helps me to keep focused on my Edelweiss reading, otherwise I’d slide even farther into the abyss…
