No, I’m not giving up on my Cover Love posts. In fact I have over 40 of them ready to go. I just thought it would be sort of fun to concentrate on title words for a change – instead of pictures. Most readers will acknowledge that some words reappear time and time again in titles. Often these words are associated with a particular genre. Case in point: “The girl on the train” and “Gone girl” spawned countless thriller titles with the word ‘girl’ in the title.
Today, for the first edition of Wednesday Word, I’ve chosen the word “Missing“. I know there are countless books with the word missing in the title. I’m featuring 20 fairly recent titles that appeal to me personally, as a way of sharing my book love.
(I’ve limited myself to 20 titles as I tend to get carried away. LOL)
Just click on the cover to read the book’s synopsis from Goodreads.
You might just find your next favorite book!
Are you tempted by any of these covers?
Have you read one of these titles and absolutely LOVED it?
Please let me know in the comments.
I read Elizabeth is Missing. I liked it. Interesting perspective – the story is told from the perspective of a woman who suffers from dementia.

Ooohh. “Elizabeth is missing” sounds like it might be a difficult read subject wise. Dementia is a topic that is hard to read about when so many people (including myself) have dear family members affected by it.

It is a good thing you limited yourself to 20, there are so many. i have read 4 of the ones listed, and have a few more on my TBR. There are also a couple I want to check out, one is Elizabeth is Missing, the discussion has intrigued me. Another great post Lynne.

I have 9 books on my bookshelf with the word “missing” in the title, 7 are mysteries/thriller and 2 are science fiction. I have 2 from your list, Missing Presumed, which I loved, and Local Girl Missing, which I haven’t read yet and my copy has a different cover.

This is similar to something I have half drafted of books with exactly the same title. Book readers are obviously creatures of habit!

Thanks Emma. I think publishers note when a book’s title proves popular, then they follow like lemmings.

Great idea for a new series, Lynne 🙂 I have read and enjoyed (if that’s the right word) Elizabeth is Missing. The uk cover is very different – it’s orange for a start. I think the dour grey cover on the copy in your chain would have influenced my experience of the book considerably. I remain fascinated by the choices of covers deemed appropriate for certain nations and not others.

Interesting Sandra. You’re the second person to mention “Elizabeth is missing”.
I too wonder why publishers feel the need to change book covers, and sometimes titles, for different countries. Are we really that different?

To my eyes all of these covers work well, differentiating each of these books despite the common title word. As for reading, it would have to be ‘The Missing One’ by Lucy Atkins – I enjoyed ‘Fractured’ and keep meaning to read more of her. Eric.
