I love being a wee part of this fantastic book-blogging community. To that end, I try to support my fellow bloggers as much as I can, time permitting. I have a vast blogroll of 208 book bloggers whose blogs I visit frequently. 
For whatever reason, some of these bloggers have not updated their blogs in a while. A few of them for several months. To that end, I decided it would be doing my followers a disservice to leave their blogs on the roll – so I have visited each and every one of the 208 blogs and if they have not posted for more than three months, I have deleted them from my blogroll. It would be great if bloggers posted a hiatus post, or in some way notified their followers that they plan to stop blogging, but hey – maybe they had their reasons.
As of today, there are now 175 book bloggers in my blogroll. If you have a book blog that is not included, let me know and I will add you to the list (if you post frequently).
Do YOU plan to do any Blog Housekeeping in 2019?
I’m still nervous about trying the new WordPress editor, so want to get my housekeeping done before I’m forced into using it.
Some housekeeping I’ll be doing in addition to cleaning up my blogroll:
- Updating my Review Policy
- Reviewing my ‘About‘ page and updating if necessary.
- Making sure I’ve got all my reviews listed on my Book Reviews page
- Adding some new entries on my Word Love page

I love your blog roll! I’ve discovered a few great book bloggers clicking through (including, of course, the wonderful Bibliobeth). I’d love to be added, if you’re not inundated with requests? (I’m Keeping Up With The Penguins, and I post twice a week, with no plans for hiatus any time soon 😉)
As for the new editor, I’m on WordPress.org so I can’t attest to whether it’s the same as for WordPress.com, BUT if it is, I promise it’s not the crisis situation we all imagined! Normally I’m a real stick in the mud with updates and changes to things I know, but I decided with this one I was just going to dive right in – it took a couple of days of fiddling and googling, but once I worked out how to do everything I actually *looks around nervously* like it better than the classic editor. There are, of course, still a few kinks to work out with it, but on the whole I’m pretty happy!

Sheree I’ve added you to my blogroll. Thanks for reassuring me that once I get used to the new editor I’ll manage okay. I’m overly nervous because I tend to use a lot of graphics and I’ve heard that can be problematic with the new editor.

So far, I haven’t encountered any problems, using the Image and Custom HTML blocks – but if you run into trouble, just know you can always insert a “Classic Editor” block, which is just a section of a post that uses the classic editor, and that really comes in handy (if you’re doing something and don’t have the time/inclination to work out how to do it with the new editor, all your old tools will be right there).

I do the same thing! It’s nice to keep things current, and there’s so much turnover in the blogging community. I do the same thing on goodreads and update my top friends. I love doing a yearly refresh. 😄

Probably something I should do as well, but I am technically challenged. Many “housekeeping” duties are a mystery to me. As for the new editor. Took me long enough to figure the last one out. Can’t believe they are changing it again. I peeked at some hints, but boxes or whatever was just confusing. Can’t we opt (forever) to stay with what we have?

I was thinking about housekeeping today. I’m still in the process of adding things to my new house and reorganizing, which stopped me from posting book blogs (and most other blog topics) for a while. I’m over-doing the Shakespeare the next few days because I’m determined to be done and over with this book in the next few days–I had to re-write some reviews because a virus killed what I’d already written, but dumping 5 blog posts in one day would be kinda crummy, so I gotta time ’em.
Otherwise, I’m trying to balance creativity, reading, and getting my house and responsibilities in order. I have an actual desk and work surface now (instead of using my lap desk–that hurts after a while), so I’ll be on my way, making a dedicated plan to read, review, and write other things.
It’s that time of year to play catch-up and renovate, that’s for sure. Have fun.

I do have a huge list of blogs to visit and sometimes I think I’m missing stuff cuz my reader doesn’t seem to display all the stuff for some reason.

Like you I try to visit all the blogs in my blogroll quite often. As there is so many, it is not as often as I would like as it is time consuming. Weird about your reader not displaying… I have found that I’ve been following a certain blog for quite a while and then suddenly my reader says I’m not following them. Bizarre!

I have never done this Lynne, but it makes sense. I will need to give it a go. I also need to do some updating of information. I want to change up my blog, but I am not sure how yet. Lots to think about thanks to this post. Sometimes I just need a kick to the behind to do things that I am ruminating about.

Some of those little tasks don’t take too long, but it’s just getting motivated to do them that proves to be the hurdle. I know I wouldn’t be motivated if I was sitting by the pool like you Carla. LOL

Yes Carla. I found that too. I wonder why they don’t post a brief note explaining that they don’t intend to blog anymore. Some of them look as though they were 100% involved with their blog one day and the next day/month/year they were no longer interested.

I’m one of those who is guilty for not posting a hiatus post mainly because despite being massively organised it wasn’t a planned break and once started I was unsure whether I would return to the fold or not… I struggled with the new editor (perhaps the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of blogging) and will also need to devote some housekeeping time to getting to grips with it before too long.
All the very best for 2019 and those housekeeping tasks.

I go through the blogs I follow three or four times a year, and unfollow any that haven’t been updated anywhere from four to six months. It’s been a while, so I need to do it again.
I tried the new editor once, and didn’t like it at all. I dread the day we’re forced to use it, because it’s going to take me forever to figure out how to set up my posts!

To be fair, I need to do some housekeeping. I have a list of bloggers but it’s probably so out of date it’ll need and overhaul. And I think I need to update my review policy to make the genres I don’t read much much bigger so I get only 20 nonsense requests a week rather than fifty!
I’m using the new block formatting in wp and although it has a few quirks, it’s actually very easy to use when you get used to it. There are some kinks to iron out like keeping photo size consistent. I find it you just ass the pictures and then resize at the end the formatting stays just as you’ve set it for publishing. It’s not great in some themes that used to be good for cross format content so it may mean checking out some themes created specifically with the new wp 5.0 in mind. Somethings are harder to find but, like anything, easier when you know how. Most features are there. Can’t comment on voice to text as I don’t use it, but for my posts I’ve kind of got in a rhythm now and it takes no longer than the old way. In fact for my recent bookvent it was quicker as I could save certain elements as saved blocks and just select them to throw in the post.

As for the new editor- I haven’t tried it either but reading your post and some of these comments is making me nervous. I was still getting used to the old editor.

I’m dreading the new editor too, I did try it out but couldn’t use much of it with my voice software and had to revert to the old one so I’m not sure what I’ll do when it’s forced on me. I’m not very good at blog housekeeping but your post has given me the push I needed to make a start on it. 🙂

A few bloggers have tried the new editor. They are braver than me. When you next start a new post, look up at the very top of the screen. It will say something like “There’s an easier way to publish a post on WordPress.com – Try the new Editor”.

I tried the new editor in December with a complicated post about a presentation I had given. It had a lot of pictures because of that. I ended up alternating between my iphone and my computer as I was writing it and that was a disaster. The formatting of the pictures didn’t stay consistent between the two platforms and I had to re-add the pictures twice before publishing. Ugh!

I always get ambitious in January- unfortunately that dissipates as the months roll on… I do think that having a clearly stated review policy is valuable. I’m often referring people to it when they ask me to review something I would never read. LOL
