Hello March (Fictionophile updates & February #bookhaul)

I added EIGHT titles to my long list of review commitments in February. They all look amazing!

From Edelweiss I received six titles:

published by Penguin Books, this is a title I’ve been wishing for – the sequel to “The Ruin”

Published by Harper Paperbacks this title has been on my wishlist since reading Cleo’s review

Also published under the title “The Corset”. Penguin Books pre-approved me for this title. I loved this author’s “The Silent Companions”

Published by Berkley Books, I was pre-approved for this title. I really enjoyed this author’s “The French Girl”

I was pre-approved for this title by Text Publishing

I was pre-approved for this title from G.P. Putnam’s Sons

From NetGalley I received two titles:

Grand Central Publishing sent me a widget to download this title.

a ‘Read Now’ title published my Marylebone House

Even though I added eight titles to my review commitments, I also purchased 5 Kindle titles in February.  I’ve put the price I paid underneath the graphic. Just click on the cover to find out more on Goodreads.  Total price for five books = $ 15.46  NOT BAD!

$7.13 Cdn.

$2.70 Cdn.

$1.99 Cdn.

FREE

$3.64 Cdn.

Once again, I will be participating in Cathy’s “Reading Ireland Month” event.

If you like reading books by Irish authors or books set in Ireland why not join in?

I’ve chosen the following five titles for Reading Ireland Month. All of these I have previous review commitments for.

Path into Darkness” by Lisa Alber

Madam Tulip” by David Ahern

The Ludlow Ladies’ Society” by Ann O’Loughlin

The Rebels and other short fiction” by Richard Power

Undertow” by Anthony J. Quinn

Are you a ‘little bit Irish‘ in the month of March?

On a sadder note, one of my favourite authors passed away on Februrary 6th, 2019.
Read the Guardian’s tribute article here.   Her obituary here.

I read all her novels years ago, and remember that “The Shell Seekers” was a personal favourite that I would reread multiple times.  “September” was also a favourite.

On a happier note, two of my favourite authors have new books coming out in the fall!
I don’t have copies of these two titles YET, but I certainly plan to a.s.a.p.

Ann Cleeves with a new series beginning with the title “The long call” (publishes on Sept. 3, 2019)

and

Catriona McPherson with her new stand-alone novel “Strangers at the Gate‘ (publishes on Oct. 22, 2019)

All bookish comments welcome. ♥

Yes, sad news of Rosamund Pilcher but what a joyful legacy she leaves in her books. I too, loved September and also The Winter Solstice was a great favourite. Some of your new titles sounds great – I’ll look forward to hearing more!

From the covers the first book I would pick is: Michael Scanlon – Where She Lies.
The blueish colours suggest a dark deception and the red perhaps a murder if not more.
I am working on a draft cover for my book and produced a mock up. I printed the cover and wrapped it around both a hardback and a paperback, I gave these to fellow writers and readers for a reaction. I thought this was a worth while as I had some useful feedback and direct face to face comments.
I realised that most readers never have an input to the cover design, so how do the publishers gauge the market reaction before the book is published?
Sorry if I have gone off track here.
    Enjoy your reading.
