I know that I seldom put anything personal on Fictionophile. It IS a book blog after all.
However, there is so much going on in my personal life just now that it can’t help but spill over into all aspects of my life – even my blog.
On May 28th my 34-year-old son was rushed to hospital with acute appendicitis. He was operated on at 7:00 am. Meanwhile, my daughter-in-law, his wife, was undergoing a cesarean section to deliver their first child, and my first grandchild, a boy. This was tragic timing as the baby was one month premature and was in breech position.
My son was distraught that he couldn’t be with his wife during the birth. They were in different hospitals. Though things were a little rocky at first, all seemed mostly well with the baby.
My son, discharged from hospital just six hours after surgery due to these special circumstances, met his son for the first time.
Since then, the baby has undergone surgery to have a portion of his bowel removed. Tragic for him, his mum and dad, and his doting grandparents. Now it is a waiting game, to see how his recovery will go. As I write this, he is not eating, or breathing, on his own.
I hope my next update will contain only good news. Lord knows we could use some…

this photo was taken before his surgery
Meanwhile, I have some posts scheduled to publish. If I don’t seem to comment on your posts, respond to your comments, or partake much in social media, I beg your understanding. Life has a way of making you prioritize.
Wow… Mazal Tov on the birth of the grandson and wishing everyone only health and happiness!

Oh Lynne, I am late reading this post and my heart goes out to all of you. I knew there was something happening with your grandson but not the extent. I will pray for all of you for healing, comfort and wisdom from the medical personnel. Know that you are in my thoughts.

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry to hear this. I am sending you nothing but good vibes, and please know that I have heard and experienced MANY situations where a child was struggling at first but pulled through. Seriously, I can’t even tell you how many kids I know who are thriving right now–six, seven, ten years later–even after a very, very rocky start (heart problems/surgeries, infections, even brain abnormalities). Keep the hope alive, and I really, really hope we hear positive updates from you soon. ❤

Oh, Lynne – I just read this now on returning from a visit to Ontario, hence my tardiness in replying. And what can I say that others have not already said, many of them more eloquently than I could?
Just know that my heart aches for you all and I hope that, when you can return to this forum, your news is good. Whatever comes, please know that there is love and support for you here. Hugs ❤

Oh dear, I’m so sorry for your turmoil, that’s a lot for one family to handle all at once. I will say a prayer for you all and your new grandson. That’s great that they were all able to get the care they need and came through their procedures, may the next phase go just as well.
My cousin was born 3 months early 40 years ago. Her prognosis I’m told was poor. She is now vibrant, over flowing with compassion, and very intelligent, raising a lovely young lady herself. So there’s hope and I hope it’s with your family.

Good luck to you and yours as you get through these difficult times. I don’t want to meet such a confluence of negative events outside the covers of a book, but we have to live the plots of our lives. I look forward to your return to a “normal” blog posting schedule.
