Millennials and #Reading – you may be surprised

Wikipedia defines the term Millennials as:

Millennials, also known as Generation Y or Gen Y, are the demographic cohort following Generation X and preceding Generation Z. Researchers and popular media typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years.

If you want to learn more about the surprising reading habits of Millennials, here’s a fun infographic from The Expert Editor, an Australian editing and proofreading company.

Most Millenials will easily join the integrated society today. because they are professional in social media, globally connected. and they can learn very fast and not take too much time. I have the same idea as above! I’m also millennial reader. Love reading books.

Fascinating! Another millennial reader here 😉 and it’s really reassuring to see that some of the trends I’ve noticed in my own reading/social circles are borne out across the broader population. I was pleasantly surprised to see we’re using libraries more – how great is that?! Hopefully, it will translated into better funding for these public services down the line. ❤️

  5. What an interesting infographic! I’m a millennial myself, and I find that a lot of this is very true to me. I read a lot, definitely more than the older generations in my family. And price promotions get me every time. xD

    • My children are millennials. I’m a sucker for price promotions too. In fact I downloaded two Kindle books this morning from Amazon. Total expenditure? $ 1.99 not bad for two reads.

      • Ha, right? If I’m on the fence about a book, a well-timed $1.99 means I automatically buy it. I’ll even buy books that I was intending to get from the library if I catch them for $0.99 to $1.99, because honestly, I can totally afford that price and am happy to support the author directly (ish?).

  6. Amazing post, Lynne. You always do an amazing job with your graphics. Gees, so we have to grab the millennials in less than 9 seconds, huh? Scary. but the ebook stat, print more popular? they’d put down their cell phones to read a print book? hmmm

    • Ha Ha. I found that one a bit suspect too. LOL

Hahaha well, as one of the millennial readers, I’m happy to confirm that literally every millennial I know reads print books. The only e-book readers I know, or people who read on their phones, are 50+ years old. Probably a biased sample, but still? 🤷‍♀️😅❤️

  8. Gosh this was fascinating and also terrifying in parts (like the fact that millennials have a worse attention span than goldfish). I’m glad to hear millennials use libraries more though!

So interesting, my parents and I were just talking about this yesterday. All three of my kids are at the very end of the millennial spectrum two of them read and one of them doesn’t.

  12. Wow, very interesting and informational. Mind if I share this? I’m a millennial (1987) myself, so most of these facts lined up for me personally.

  14. Very interesting! I would like to have seen some more comparisons with the older generation, because those were interesting when they were there.
