Anyone who reads a lot knows that it is a real thrill to discover a brand new author!
With so many fabulous books out there, I can only imagine how daunting it must be to write a book for the first time and – then wait to see if you can get it published, and then wait to learn if anyone actually likes it.
Below, I’m listing five fabulous debut novels that really made an impression on me. I read a lot, and when I give a debut 5 stars I’m truly in awe of the writing. Quite a feat for a first time author. These are all books that I’ve read within the past year with links to my reviews.

Yes! I love a brilliant debut, and anticipating all the great reads to come. I think one of my favourites was Her Body And Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado.

Hi, I keep meaning to to send you a message letting you know how much I appreciate your blog! Also, thank you for mentioning when a book might have a different title in a different country. There have been several times when I have looked for a book that you have recommended and then I can’t find it here in the States. (Any suggestions?) Thank-you so much for your kind words Mary. I know it is frustrating when a book you are looking for is unavailable in your area. It happens to me all the time as I have a fondness for British books. I know a few sites will deliver internationally but I’m not sure what the shipping costs would be. Try Book Depository or Amazon.co.uk

The only one of these that I have read is Dear Child and I did enjoy it. I have a couple of the others on my Wishlist TBR after reading your reviews previously. Always great to find a new author right at the beginning of their career.

Hi. Have you read any of Rex Stout’s mysteries? I’m reading The Mother Hunt now. It’s good so far. I’d never read anything by Stout before.

No Neil, I’ve never read anything by Rex Stout, though I’ve heard of him of course having worked in a library for decades. Perhaps that is something I should remedy?
