Well folks, I didn’t expect May to arrive and be still waiting by the phone for my call from the surgeon… I was hoping my surgery would be in the rear view mirror by now. Covid has effected the hospital staffing and they are still not booking major surgeries that require a protracted stay in hospital.
Here are my May reading/blogging plans – with the proviso that things could change momentarily if I get a call.
First, I must remind everyone that May is Short Story Month!
For that reason I’m aiming to read four books of short stories, as well as one very short novella which is a series prequel.
1) “Animal Person” by Alexander MacLeod (a NetGalley title)
2) “The Other Side of Stone” by Linda Cracknell (ARC directly from publisher)
3) “Not Safe After Dark” by Peter Robinson (from my Edelweiss backlist)
4) “Backstories” by Simon Van Der Velde (directly from author some time ago)
and the novella “What Hides Beneath” by TG Reid which is a prequel to his Scottish crime series featuring DCI Bone.
Nine other titles that I aim to read and review in May are:
“The Dark Tide” by Simon McCleave (NetGalley)
“The Beloved Girls” by Harriet Evans (NetGalley)
“The Second Cut” by Louise Welsh (NetGalley)
“The Murder Rule” by Dervla McTiernan (Edelweiss)
“99 Red Balloons” by Elisabeth Carpenter (Edelweiss backlist)
“Her Child’s Cry” by S.A. Dunphy (NetGalley)
“Broken Promise” by Linwood Barclay (NetGalley backlist)
“The Foundling” by Ann Leary (Edelweiss)
“I Know You Lied” by Lesley Sanderson (NetGalley backlist)
Seven of the titles I plan to read in May are from my NetGalley list so that old 80% badge is so close I can almost taste it… I’m standing at 79% now and with seven titles more I should just about make it.
And, May is a big month for birthdays. I have four dear friends who celebrate their birthdays in May as well as a beloved cousin. Also, this month my darling grandson will be turning THREE!

so sorry to hear of your impending surgery (if it ever gets here!) again…much less one that will require an extensive recovery. i hardly noticed a miss from your blog last time, you must have spent a ton of time working ahead. i wish you much luck, a safe surgery, and hopefully full and easy recovery.
